Discover The World of Wines
Wine can be defined as alcoholic beverage which is generated from fermented grape juice. The innate chemical balance in grapes allows them to ferment sans addition of acids, sugars, water, enzymes or any other nutrients. Apart from grapes, winesare also made from other fruits such as elderberry, apple and more. If you are interested to know more about the wines follow the post below as its all about a brief discussion on wines.
- The wines can be categorized into different types. These are red wine, white wine, sparkling wine (covering Champagne), Fortified wine, dessert wine & rose wine. The wine’s flavor and character is determined by particular grape varietal (individual grape variety) grown & the treatment that grape went through during wine making tenure. Tasting is the most viable way to distinguish the wine types
- In the US, wines are generally referred by the grape variety involved in producing them. For example, you will see bottles labeled as “Chardonnay” or “Pinot Noir” which refers to the type of grapes used in making those wines.
- Most of the wines are a blend or combination of 2 or multiple grape varietals. If a single wine goes in making 75% of the wine, the bottle label would be named after that wine only as per the law. However, some of the American wine makers tend to list up all the grape varietals used in the wine combo, and that too with the percentages at times.
- When it comes to Europe, wines would be named according to the area where the grapes (involved in the wine) have grown & not on the type of grape as is common in the US wine scene. In the European wine market everything is important starting from the area where wine grapes are grown, the person growing it & the soil type where grapes are grown. Some of the most famous of European wines are Burgundy wines grown in Burgundy region in France. The Burgundy wine is made from Pinot Noir grapes. Another famous one is Chianti from the Chianti region in Italy which involves Sangiovese grapes.
